iPod2Copy is distributed in a file called
iPod2Copy.exe for window users and iPod2Copy.jar for others users (MAC
& Linux). It requires a Java JDK /JRE 1.2 (or later) runtime to be
functional.
To run iPod2Copy, you normally only have to double-click on it, but it
can also occur at times you are using it on linux that it does not
start.
Now below, you will find the instructions
to follow in case your iPod2Copy does not start when you double-click :
java -jar iPod2Copy.jar
- Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp,
- Any Operating System (Window, Mac, Unix),
- Processor 166 Mhrz or faster,
- At least 64 MB RAM,
- 1 MB free space to install iPod2Copy,
- Free Space to copy the songs,
- (Optional) iPod with playlists on it.
Upgrading your old version is simple; you only need to replace the file iPod2Copy.exe or iPod2Copy.jar with the new one.
This is the basic interface displayed if you want to copy files, clone hard disk or anything else. The seven points are described below the screenshot.

1. Drop action
Drop is the designation for the case that you "put" a folder or your iPod from the Desktop to the window of iPod2Copy like in the example bellow.

3. Label from and label to
If you did not choose any files, you can't see the labels. They display the current path. If you stay more than two seconds on them, a tool tip text displays, showing the full path.
4. Buttons Copy & Stop
In the middle of the screen you can see one button including three states:
- Copy (disabled),
- Copy (activated),
- Stop.
You can click a button when it is red. A grey button means you have to complete the information, one path could be missing.
If you click on the button "Stop" while copying, it terminates the current file and exit. While copying songs from iPod, it terminates the current songs and writes the xml file in order to save your playlists informations.![]()
5. Label current state
The Label current state displays the current information, this is usually what you have to do, but it shows an example of the format in which you will export the songs. If the message is too long, keep two seconds on it and a tool tip text with the message will appear.
6. Button Help
The button ''help'' leads to a window and displays the short manual that you are reading.
7. Progress bar
The progress bar shows informations about the current work in percent with some other information.
When you are copying songs from iPod it displays the name of the song in progress and when you are copying files it shows the name of the current file.
8. Search iPod
This button will automaticly search for the iPod that is connected on your computer. It does not run with linux.
This is the screen displayed when you are ready
to copy songs from iPod to your computer. The three following points
are described below the screenshot.
1. Combo Playlists
The combo displays all the playlists from the iPod with a number next to the respective title. A Playlist is a list of songs, iPod2Copy takes this list to copy all the songs on the computer. If you copy the main playlist (your iPod name), all the songs will be exported on your computer, then a file with the playlists information will be generated. When you import this file into iTunes, you will recover all the playlists and some other information like Rating, Trackcount, last played date and so on.
2. Copy format & keys to create paths
This Text area has an important meaning because it displays the current exportation format, and you have the choice between several options:
%t - Title, %a - Artist, %l - Album, %g - Genre , %n - Tracknumber, %c - Trackcount, %n - Tracknumber, %id - Songs identification number
You can get more information about it if you set your mouse on the box, this way a tool tip text will be displayed.
You can use as many keys as you want, the separator "/" will create a directory with the name in front of it.
For more informations, open the copy format popup.
If you do not use a unique key (Whether Title, whether ID), the songs will not be renamed, the name is normally randomly generated in four characters word like "EOJM.mp3".
3. Copy format
iPod2Copy provides exportation models, you can select one and it will generate the keys.
This popup window is showed when clicking on thebutton. To close this popup window, click on the format which you would like to export your music or click on the iPod2copy window, the popup will colse.
![]()
The file playlists.xml is the generated file that contains your playlists,
play count, date last played date ans ratings informations.
To import it into iTunes, open iTunes, click on menu "import" and
open playlists.xml.
